What's the deal with self storage?

Anyone here come from residential real estate and then move into self storage? What are the benefits and biggest differences?

First off, I'm not sure if you meant to or not but I had to look at this post with the Seinfeld vibes, "what's the deal with...". Either way, I was thinking the same thing about all this storage talk. But my brain went to these landlords are owning both storage and residential so that they can supply their current/future tenants an easy option during move in/move out periods. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the community replies to your post.
