When people get to know me, they often ask me what's made me successful in real estate? I know how arrogant this first sentence sounds.. forgive me haha. I just figured this would be worth sharing here. I think people expect a bulleted list with things like RESEARCH and DEDICATION to take center stage. Those things matter, but it's actually relationships that are the key.
When I first started in real estate, I knew next to nothing. I had my ambition and a little bit of money. That was it. Netowrking was tough initially. It was awkward. Slowly, I built relationships with people who knew more than me. These genuine friendships ended up elevating my business. It was like a wonderful side-effect of these relationships.
I think back on a time when my friend's cousin reached out to me. The cousin said she knew I was into real estate because of my friend. Her and her husband were moving away to start their dream jobs and wanted to sell quickly. They could've put their house on the market but becaue my friend had talked up my character and passion, I got lucky. They offered me a seller financing deal. I didn't have to put much down on the house at all!
Hopefully, this story inspiries you a little bit. Relationships for relationships sake are the best, but they can also have some wonderful side-effects for your business :).
