I just got into real estate. I'm overwhelmed... There is so much information. Does anyone else feel this way? What is the best place to start?Reply by Amara
Hi Matthew! Slow down and take a deep breath. I understand how you could be overwhelmed. There is too much information out here! You're very young, though, and if you stick with it, things will improve.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if they seem dumb. You'll learn more than people who are afraid. Also, don't put too much pressure on yourself. We are all on our own journey. Be gentle with yourself. You got this!

Hey Matthew, it's definitely scary when just starting out. However, joining a real estate community like this one is a great way to start out and you'll learn a whole lot!

Dont get distracted with all the “Real Estate Influencers” out there. Loads of rubbish information from people who make a living telling others how to do it, without having actually done “it” themselves. Look for a mentor that is actually doing the thing you want to do (find an apartment building in your area that you would like to own one day and call the owner and ask how they got where they are). Find someone that has achieved what you want to some day achieve. I wanted to get into multifamily investing. The mistake I made was following and listening to a whole bunch of guys that were in the wholesale single family business….and half of them were not even making much money at wholesaling, social media seemed to be their focus. Bigger Pockets is full of “Gurus” like this. Get off of there. BP is in the business of keeping you coming back looking for information….they provide very little because its full of people like you who are just starting out all talking to each other in an echo chamber. Most successful RE owners who you want to learn from are busy running and managing their business….that does not leave much time to post on BP.
I eventually found Christian Osgood and his Multifamily Strategy program. Christian is a great guy whos main business is doing the thing I want to do…Multifamily real estate. He also has a passion for teaching. I signed up for his group and we met on zoom 3 times a week for an hour or two each time. Over the span of 6 months I learned enough to confidently buy my first 10 unit apartment building, and I have just made an offer on a 12 unit. Christian was there every step of the way looking over my shoulder providing answers to my questions and double checking my math. Each week we would give updates and discuss methods and processes and how to execute in the world of real estate. Before joining I was stuck in analysis paralysis….Christian got me past that and helped me build the knowledge and confidence to execute and go buy real estate!
