Hi everyone, Josh here!Having a child sure makes you do things that you thought you would never EVER do...like move to the burbs.
In April '25, my wife and I decided to become "accidental landlords" on purpose. Moving from the WONDERFUL city of Chicago to the southwest suburbs (closer to family, better school system, etc.). After speaking to young couple that was referred to us, we decided to keep our condo and rent to them. This was had never been something we planned on, but it has been relatively painless up until about a month ago (story for another post).
Glad to be here and looking forward to hearing stories, ideas, and advice from the community on how to be as efficient of a landlord as I can for my family and my tenants. Who knows maybe with a little help from everyone, I may become more than just you average "Accidental Landlord".

Hi Josh welcome!! Accidental landlord on purpose is such a good way to put it, that's basically how I ended up here too.
Also you can't just say "painless until about a month ago, story for another post" and leave us hanging like that lol. Now I need to know what happened.
Renting to a couple that came referred to you is honestly a great start, that trust factor makes a big difference early on. Welcome again, you're gonna find a lot of good people here!
