HVAC replacement or repair for an older duplex

The AC unit in one side of my duplex is 14 years old and just needs a new compressor. Repair quote is $900, full replacement is $4,200. Given the age, is it worth just replacing the whole system now instead of patching it?

I went through this exact call last year on a similar-age unit. Compressor repairs are a coin flip on how long they buy you, and 14 years is right at the edge for most residential systems. I ended up replacing mine and haven't regretted it, especially with a tenant in place who'd be miserable during a mid-summer breakdown.
