Horror Stories?

Hi everyone,

I was just listening to one of my podcasts (not real estate/business related at all) and one of the three hosts always asks a certain question to every guest and it made me want to do the same here. No matter who the guest is or what they do, he always asks if they have any horror stories, or crazy stuff that has they have witnessed/happened to them.

So, I am going to do the same for this community, what are the craziest, weirdest things that you have come across in your life as landlords?

Hopefully this can prepare me and others for things we may run into in the future. Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Thankfully we haven't had too many nightmare tenants or horror stories, but we did have one tenant when we were house hacking in Chicago - she was the typical 'call your landlord to change a lightbulb' kind of tenant. She called me once because she had dropped her glasses behind the sink in the bathroom and somehow made the case that this was our responsibility as her landlord. I had to go into her apartment with a clothes hanger and fish it out for her. When she moved out she left behind a cat watering system and a box of clothes. She called me after she had already left the city instructing me to pack and ship them to her (she did venmo us for the amount). I probably should have put my foot down and said no, but honestly I was just so happy to have her out of the apartment.
