My contractor stopped responding two weeks into demo and I've got an open kitchen and no timeline. Has anyone dealt with a GC disappearing mid-job, and how did you get the project back on track?

I've worked for a real estate agent before, and it happens soooo often. There are certain states that have strict rules, requirements and certifications for GCs; other states like TN have almost no rules or certifications. Anyone could become a GC. So I'm not sure which state you're inI think word of mouth was always the best bet, we used and recommended the same company for pretty much everything. Do you know of anyone who could recommend another company for you that's reputable?

Hey Tobias...sorry to hear about this crappy situation. I've dealt with similar situations, and it is scary. Panic mode kicks in and you feel totally lost. I am in Chicago, so I just started reaching out to people in the neighborhood that I knew. My thought process was that if they know a trustworthy GC that has done work in the neighborhood, they may be in the neighborhood currently (or at least nearby) and maybe be able to quickly come by and help me out. It actually worked, the guys were actually working on a place a couple blocks away and came by a few hours later to check out the mess that was left in our rental, a week later everything was back to normal.Hope this was helpful, and best of luck with your situation.

That's one of my biggest fears with a rehab. Josh gave some good advice. I'd also take plenty of pictures of where the project is at before bringing someone new in, just so there's a record of everything. Hopefully you can find someone willing to jump in and get it finished without too much delay.
